Birmingham Museum of Art – Its permanent collection contains over 25,000 objects covering a range of cultures, including Asian, African, American, European, Native American, and Pre-Columbian. The museum’s collection of Asian art is thought to be one of the best in the Southeast, and its collection of Vietnamese ceramics is one of the finest in the world. Some of the other features of the museum’s permanent collection are Renaissance paintings, sculpture and decorative arts, 18th century European decorative arts, and the world-renowned collection of Wedgwood china.

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum – George Barber, a former Porsche race car driver won 63 races in the 1960s.  When he retired, he decided to put some of his passion into building a museum for other speed enthusiasts. Instead of cars, he started collecting and restoring vintage motorcycles. According to Guinness World Records, this is the world’s largest motorcycle collection, and one of the best things to do in Birmingham. The museum often has well over a thousand motorcycles and hundreds of bikes on display. They represent 200 manufacturers from about 20 countries including rare Harley-Davidson, Indian, Honda, Showa, Cagiva, and DSK bikes displayed on the museum floor.

McWane Science Center – The center not only teaches about science, but also makes science fun through a range of hands-on, interactive exhibits such as Alabama Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters, Explore!, Collections Center, NatureScope, World of Water Aquarium, and much more. If you are looking for exciting, fun things to do in Birmingham with kids, this is a terrific place to visit. Exhibits are designed to foster exploring and questioning.

Birmingham’s Red Mountain Park is a 1,500-acre park located on Red Mountain Ridge and includes more than 15 miles of trails suitable for mountain biking and hiking.  Of these trails, two miles are paved trails suitable for strollers, wheelchairs or easy walking. Destinations along the trails include two scenic overlooks, three tree houses, and Remy’s dog park, the largest outdoor off-leash dog park in Alabama at 6 acres. Trails at the park also pass by three historic iron ore mining sites.
